ADS Transnational Access Training School Concludes in York
The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) hosted a five-day Transnational Access training school on Linked Open Data and Semantic Mapping, held at the Guildhall in York, October 12 – 16, 2026.
9 participants took part in the week-long programme, which gave them the understanding and practical skills needed to map archaeological and heritage data semantically and to publish it to the ARIADNE portal.
The ARIADNE portal is a central point of access to digital archives and online resources related to archaeology and heritage from throughout Europe. By mapping their data to shared semantic standards, researchers and data holders can make their datasets more discoverable and more easily connected with related resources across the continent. The training school focused on how to carry out this mapping and how to aggregate the resulting data into the portal.
The programme also benefited from the expertise and teaching of Maria Theodoridou , Research and Development Engineer at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas, Institute of Computer Science (FORTH-ICS), working in the Information Systems Laboratory and the Centre for Cultural Informatics (CCI). We are grateful to Maria for sharing her knowledge with the group.
The training school has already supported collaboration with new audiences, and we hope that some of the participants’ datasets will go on to be aggregated into the ARIADNE portal, helping to broaden the range of archaeological and heritage resources available through the infrastructure.
