The European Association for Digital Humanities Conference (EADH) 2026 conference invites the international Digital Humanities community to explore how European DH can respond to the challenges of a rapidly changing technological landscape, from artificial intelligence and automation to multilingual infrastructures, sustainability, and responsible data governance. The theme “Linking Europe: Digital Humanities Without Borders” encourages reflection on how data, methods, and infrastructures intersect with human values, creativity, and critical inquiry. The conference will take place from 15 to 19 September 2026 at Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland), and is co-organized by the Digital Humanities Lab of the Jagiellonian University, the Institute of Polish Language of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the University of Wrocław.
Abstract: Place-based Linking and Visualisation of Multidisciplinary Research Data: Demonstrators from the ATRIUM Project

As a key attribute of archaeological and heritage data, place provides significant potential for interoperability as the point of connection for data from multiple sources and disciplines. Similarly, defined by the parameters of place and location, space is inherently multidisciplinary and contextually dependent on occupation and perception over time. To some extent, spatial digital humanities have been accelerated and defined by the advent of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) (Dunn 2019), which has been crucial for both practical and scholarly visualisation and analysis of space. However, aligning spatial data from different disciplines is not without its critical challenges.
One such hurdle is accounting for the differing degrees of spatial resolution. For example, archaeological data are often precisely geo-referenced down to individual findspots, whereas data outputs from broader arts and humanities fields tend to- wards being more fuzzy. In attempting to address these issues, this paper presents the output from two work packages of the Advancing Frontier Research in the Arts and Humanities (ATRIUM) project, focusing on the production of a workflow and demonstrator to show how place, communicated via spatial data, can act as a central element to the integration of archaeological datasets with those from multiple research domains.
