3rd ATRIUM Researcher Forum

Date
February 9, 2027
Location
Berlin, Germany

Preparations for the 3rd ATRIUM Researcher Forum are already underway! The event will take place on 09 February 2027, at the DARIAH Coordination Office in Berlin. This edition will focus on testing text-based workflows developed within ATRIUM WP4 using the Galaxy platform.

This forum follows two successful editions -  the first held in Poznań, Poland (2024) , which explored the OPERAS GoTriple platform , and the second in Munich, Germany (2025) , focused on the CLARIN Transcription Portal . The ATRIUM Researcher Forum aims at fostering closer interactions between researchers active in and around research infrastructures and service providers. The event serves a dual purpose: users are invited to conduct usability testing to help improve the service, while experts gather to discuss current features and potential future developments.

For this edition, we will not focus simply on a service, but on combining tools into pipelines - what we call workflows. Workflows are at the core of ATRIUM WP4 work. They encapsulate methodologies dedicated to addressing research questions based on digital information relevant to archaeology in particular and the Humanities at large. For the Researcher Forum, we will concentrate on a workflow combining a number of tools commonly used in Humanities research: including automatic text recognition, and information extraction. This workflow will be tested via the Galaxy platform in which an executable version has been made available.

Galaxy is an open-source scientific workflow system designed to make research accessible, reproducible, and transparent. Originally developed for computational biology, Galaxy is now used across multiple domains and there is an ongoing effort to engage with the social sciences and humanities. New tools can easily be incorporated making it the ideal platform for experimenting with new workflows especially those developed in projects such as ATRIUM where different components may come from different partners.
